The Series 2 Woodbody cartridges from Benz-Micro are seriously improved from the originals in some very key ways!

  • lower mass coil assembly - still made by caring Swiss hands undermicroscopes, these new lower mass assemblies are quicker, more phase coherent (= better soundstaging), and better tracking; another advantage is a lower internal impedance for easier mating with phono stages and step up transformers
  • New rear pole piece - incorporates  the locking azimuth/suspension mechanism, allowing the Swiss production staff to more accurately tune and tension the critical suspension adjustment -- without this the moving coil is just not able to as accurately and precisely "do its thing."
  • Increased magnet size and strength - new cross-coil armatures have stronger Hybrid magnets consisting of neodymium, boron and iron
One more point.....lower output means better low-level detail.  If your phono stage and preamp can handle the 0.4mV output of this design, do it.  The M2 and H2 are wonderful -- the H2 was the first Benz Woodbody I ever lived with personally, and it was AWESOME on ALL types of music -- but you'll get a bit more of the tasty subtleties with a M2 or L2 than the H2 can provide.
