Headphones represent the single most significant component investment you can make for the money. Back in the day, I"d see lots of poor college students who loved music, but just didn't have much money. They'd come in and say "I've only got $400. for an audio system! How could I possibly afford anything HERE? I'd recommend a $300. source component and a $100. set of headphones! Stunned by my response, they'd realize that it would never be more than them and a friend or two, and with a couple of adapters, they could all rock out with FAR better tunes that a $400. POS mini system could ever get them! I sold a LOT of headphones back then, and Grado makes it easy to sell 'em now! Their Prestige Series headphones are quite affordable, and really do get legitimately better as you move up the range.
