An integrated amp is actually two components in one -- a preamp to grab and route the signals your components are feeding it, and the amplifier to take that delicate signal and boost it 1000x so your speakers can use it. Remember that the preamp section often feeds off the same power supply as the amplifier's using. This can add noise and other problems into the preamp, which can really slaughter your delicate source signals. CHOOSE WISELY, remembering that THE PREAMP SECTION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE AMPLIFIER SECTION TO GREAT SOUND. THE BEST THE AMP SECTION CAN DO IS TO REPRODUCE WHAT THE PREAMP SECTION IS GIVING IT. Make sure that the integrated amp you buy will do far more than just drive effectively your loudspeakers. Make sure that the preamp section is KILLER, so that amplifier section is getting the good stuff!
