Pro-Ject Phono Box II
I've long stated that a budget audio component's greatest achievement is NOT how much it can do, it's how LITTLE it can mess something up, which would draw attention to itself; taking you away from the music. The Phono Box II is masterful at not screwing anything up. It's a well-conceived budget piece that gives the entry-level analog lover what he/she came for....MUSIC. No frills, done right. If you want hype around this one, forget it. Here's the bottom line. If you're short on cash and just want something that'll play some records and sound FUN, this is it! If you're a newbie and just want to try getting into vinyl, this is your phono stage. If you're too settled in your ways to spend lots of cash on a new table, and your old Pioneer SX780 finally died, this will be a more-than-worthy replacement for its phono stage, and then some! 60 dB of gain through the MC input! Works with MM OR MCs with no problem! |
